1901 Large Size US Note a “Horse Blanket” with a “Buffalo” on it and it is also a “Mule”

You ask how can it be all three…

Easy the Large size US Notes, because of their size, are nicknamed a Horse Blanket. The main object, called a device, on the obverse of this note is a Bison and most call it a Buffalo. And now for the “Mule”; this note was printed using a set of dies that were not ment to be used together and in the hobby that is called a mule.

This note has been Graded by PCGS Currency and was given a Fine-12. It is a wonderful example of a early style note which is listed in “Friedberg” as Design # 17, Note # 121m. It is signed by Elliot & White. It features Lewis & Clark and it is a RED Seal. It’s Serial Number is E20368931:-.

Please see the enlarged photo of the corner of the the reverse of this note which shows the lower right hand corner and the reverse plate number. The placement of the plate number is what makes it a “Mule”, for the standard note the reverse plate number is on the left side of the note.
